When Chanel announces the release of a brand new perfume, the world sits up and takes note. Earlier today, the French luxury label took to Instagram and shared two posts that revealed not much more than a name and a few hashtags. “Stay tuned for the official release of the GABRIELLE CHANEL fragrance on September 1st,” read one caption underneath a photograph of Kristen Stewart, leading some to believe that she will front the campaign.

Created by Chanel’s in-house master perfumer Olivier Polges, Gabrielle is the first original scent from the storied house for 15 years. Polges, who prior to joining Chanel made Viktor and Rolf’s brilliant Flowerbomb, took over from his father Jacques Polges in 2013. Since then, Polges junior has worked on various perfumes for the brand including Chanel Eau Tendre and last year’s bestselling No.5 L’Eau.

This, however, is his big solo moment. Come September, the question on everybody’s lips will be: But is it as good as Chanel No.5?
