Mumbai motorcycle gang: Harley-Davidson revs up with new store

Even those of us who have never sat astride the throbbing engine of a motorbike have probably felt the influence of biker chic. For a relatively niche pastime, its reach spreads far and wide with biker boots, leather biker jackets, caps and t-shirts all filtering into mainstream fashion.

Of course Harley-Davidson is a style icon in its own right. A lifestyle, an instantly recognisable brand, a reputation that spans the globe.

Opened by GVK Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), the new Harley-Davidson store at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Terminal 2 stocks a range of the American motorcycle brand’s merchandise. It’s all you need to look the part whether or not you ever own one of its classic motorbikes.

Going by the suitably biker-ish name of Mach-1, the 500sq ft store doubles as a showroom and is the brand’s first Alternate Retail Outlet (ARO) in the Asia Pacific region. Against an industrial backdrop, a wide range of Harley-Davidson merchandise is available including: jackets, boots, helmets, t-shirts, caps, gloves, sunglasses, sweaters and other accessories. Everything except the bike in fact.
