The Best of British: Gin and Tea (and Tonic)

There are few things more British than a good old cup of tea. Apart from gin, perhaps, a drink that is riding a wave of popularity today. Now, to celebrate Heathrow’s Gin Festival (which started on July 1), Chase Distillery has teamed up with the airport to release a new gin, exclusive to the airport’s World Duty Free stores. Look out for the new dark green bottle, unmistakably British with its union flag label.

But gin enthusiasts should hurry, as there are only 10, 000 bottles of this limited edition bottle, joining the 40 plus varieties already available at Heathrow. To avoid disappointment, you can pre-order your bottle at Boutique.Heathrow.com. before you fly.

Throughout the festival, the exclusive GB Gin will be available for US$37 (£29) and with every purchased bottle, travellers will also receive a gin and tonic tea bag. But don’t put the kettle on; the pyramid bags infuse the delicious flavours of one of three favourite holiday destinations into your gin and tonic.

Red berries, hibiscus and apple will give your G&T a rich and sweet taste of the USA, while Sweden is represented by rose and jasmine flavours. And what could go better with an aromatic gin than the delectable spices of India?

So if you’re flying from Heathrow before 31 August, get into the festival spirit by sampling some of the dishes and cocktails showcasing gin from the airport’s restaurants and bars. Oh, and maybe buy a bottle, too.
