Travel often involves celebrations and special events – exactly the times when you most want to shine. But travel can also take a lot out of your skin. I’m a big proponent of chasing radiance through skincare, so here are a few tips for bringing back your inner glow when you’re far from home and short on time, and one versatile make-up product to pull it all together.
- Intensive hydration
Has airplane travel or hotel A/C sapped your skin of its dewy bounce? For dry or dehydrated skin types, a quick hit of deep hydration will revive your luminosity and bring your skin back to its optimally firm state. Look for watery liquid products, like hydrating toners or sheet masks, that contain hyaluronic acid, a humectant that traps water in the upper layers of skin.
Short on time? Pat in a layer or two of Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Lotion, which hydrates multiple layers of skin using five different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid. (Review)
Got 30 minutes to an hour to spare? Relax with a My Beauty Diary sheet mask – in addition to providing maximum hydration, its anti-inflammatory ingredients will calm redness and even out skin. (Review)
- Gentle clarification
Sometimes the source of dry skin is right on the surface, in the form of dead skin and clogged pores. The night before or the morning of a special event aren’t the time to attack such issues with heavy-duty exfoliating peels or scrubs, but a gentle clarifying treatment can work wonders to brighten skin. Stay away from excessively grainy physical exfoliators or highly concentrated acid treatments.
Want non-irritating overall exfoliation with an extra brightening effect? Check out B-Lab I Am Sorry Just Cleansing Peeling Gel, which delicately sweeps dull dead skin away and reveals a soft, lively complexion.
Want an overall clarifying treatment that will clear dullness and enlarged pores without stinging or drying out skin? Try Eclado Oxygen Bubble Pack, a smooth gel that transforms into tickling, cleansing bubbles on skin and leaves it clear and bright.
- A little extra help
As staunch as I am about achieving luminous skin by perfecting your actual skin, even I appreciate a little extra make-up help sometimes. A creamy liquid illuminator that adds iridescence rather than glitter, like Thank You Farmer Be Beautiful Luminous CC Cream, can go a long way. Mix it with your foundation for overall luminosity, create a subtle highlight by dabbing it onto cheekbones and the bridge of your nose, or use it to tone down a strongly pigmented cream or gel blush.
Don’t let travel stress and strange environments dull your natural beauty. Instead, take advantage of the opportunity to glow!
