Flying through LAX? Check out this pop-up Miansai shop on wheels

If you’re walking through LAX Tom Bradley International Terminal anytime soon, you’ll spot a pastel blue 1965 Piaggio truck which looks like it should be selling homemade kombucha (or something else suitably Californian). Upon closer inspection, you’ll see that it is in fact a Miansai pop-up shop stocking a curated selection of jewellery and leathergoods.

Founded in 2008, the Miami-based brand began with a single bracelet designed by Creative Director Michael Saiger. Since then,  it has grown into a lifestyle label for both men and women, and has been featured in the likes of GQ, Vogue, and Esquire. Miansai is now sold in 40 U.S. states and 37 countries, but this outpost marks its airport debut (in partnership with Los Angeles World Airports and Westfield).

“It’s a thrill for us to bring Miansai to such a global audience,” said Michael Saiger, Founder and Creative Director. “We’re no stranger to bringing our merchandise right to customers. Through this partnership with Westfield, we’re doing exactly that – bringing Miansai to one of the busiest and best international terminals in the world.”

Open until the end of the year, this chic little vintage vehicle is part of the American brand’s growing fleet of mobile shops, which includes two vintage Airstream trailers, as well as the Fiat and Piaggio trucks. The cars are travelling coast to coast to promote Miansai’s coastal roots as part of their ongoing Mobile Tour.

The ‘beach life’ vibes are evident in Miansai’s classic multiple-band bracelet with the simple hook closure, which has become the label’s signature piece. Made in the USA using fine Italian leather, precious metals, and custom-made marine-grade ropes, Miansai’s designs are certainly a notch above your average seaside souvenir.

So if you’re looking for something special to bring home from your next trip to the City of Angels, head to Gate 148 of the international terminal and keep on trucking.

Spring marks the beginning of warmer days, brighter wardrobes and… an excuse to update our jewellery boxes? Swarovski certainly thinks so and has launched a collection of traveller-exclusive accessories for spring/summer 2017.

The cutely named Giggles pendants will have customers smiling as they step into a new season. These mixed-plated pendants feature several ‘lucky charms’ which are available in different metal plating, decorated with clear crystal pavé. Swarovski says the pendants are perfect for a gift or as an everyday essential.

The Gino Set includes an elegant rhodium-plated necklace and matching earrings. A sparkling stone inside a square cage in crystal pavé dangles from the necklace.

If you don’t want to restrict yourself to one colour then the Gaelle pendants offer variety. Featuring purple, silver, blue and pink crystals, the pendants add a feminine touch to an everyday look. The pendants are presented on a rhodium-plated chain.

Look pretty in pink with the Sage pendant. Hanging on a rhodium-plated chain, the pendant presents a Rosaline crystal drop delicately wrapped in clear crystal pavé.

Before Coco: Chanel goes back to the start for its latest inspiration

The fashion feast of a film Coco Before Chanel, featuring Audrey Tautou, chronicled the early life of Gabrielle Chanel before she became ‘Chanel’. Now, the French fashion house has turned to those early years for its latest inspiration.

Earlier this week saw the release of a new chapter of the Inside Chanel film series: ‘Gabrielle, a Rebel at Heart’. The film which runs for a scant minute and a half, explores the early influences of the iconic designer who is credited with freeing women from the constraints of corsets into a brave new world of clothes which combined elegance with comfort and ease.

The two major launches of the Gabrielle campaign will be a fragrance line (the company’s first new fragrance pillar in 15 years according to industry bible WWD) and a handbag design.

By returning to the ‘rebel heart’ of its founder, the campaign seems to be designed to attract more of the free spirited, rebellious Millennial generation to the brand.

Gabrielle Chanel eau de parfum is scheduled to make its debut in June in Chanel boutiques and on the official Chanel website before rolling out to other Chanel retail outlets. Information disclosed at this point reveals it to be an ‘abstract floral’ created by Chanel Fragrance Creator Olivier Polge.

The Gabrielle handbag was first seen on the catwalk last October and is due to reach stores in March. Intriguingly, WWD reports that Pharrell Williams will become the first man to star in a Chanel handbag campaign (he wears a croc version of the Gabrielle cross-body). Three other Chanel muses: Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne and Caroline de Maigret will also feature in the Karl Lagerfeld-shot campaign, to be released on 3 April.

There’s also news that ‘Gabrielle’ will inspire new watch and jewellery designs from the house later in the year.
