To mark the 20th anniversary of its partnership with the Cannes Film Festival, L’Oréal Paris is pulling out all the stops to bring the party to its loyal fans as well as its famous band of ambassadors.
L’Oréal Paris chose the occasion of the 70th Cannes Film Festival to name 19-year-old actress Elle Fanning as its new international spokesperson. An actress from the age of two, Elle is best known for playing Sleeping Beauty opposite Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent; appearing in J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi thriller Super 8; starring with fellow L’Oréal spokesmodel Susan Sarandon in 3 Generations; and for Nicolas Winding Refn’s psychological thriller The Neon Demon, in which she played ‘the world’s most beautiful woman’.
The Beguiled is Elle’s latest film and is in official competition at this year’s film festival. Directed by Sophia Coppola, the ‘dark Civil War story’ also stars Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Colin Farrell.
Elle Fanning is also known for being the sister of Dakota Fanning. This year, the little sister’s star is rising however. Alongside her new role as L’Oréal spokesmodel and her blossoming film career, Elle also appeared in the coveted Vanity Fair Hollywood issue.
The first L’Oréal beauty campaign to feature Elle Fanning will be for Paradise, a new innovative, sensorial mascara.
Elle Fanning commented: “Excited does not even begin to describe how thrilled I am to be a L’Oréal Paris spokesperson. L’Oréal always strikes the perfect balance between creativity and beauty. Instagram plus L’Oréal – Oh what fun we are going to have!”
Until 28 May, a series of events will be taking place in L’Oréal Paris’ Cannes outpost, the Martinez Beach, to make sure that everyone feels like a film star. As L’Oréal Paris Global President Pierre Emmanuel Angeloglou explained: “For our Canniversary, L’Oréal Paris pays homage to cinema and beauty by democratising the Festival experience. Inviting the public, festival goers and fans at home to join in a celebration of creativity and diversity of two interdependent visual arts: creative filmmaking and make-up design.”
L’Oréal Paris will also be hosting its first open air cinema, screening a different film from the 70-year history of the Festival each night. To make it extra special, each film will be presented by one of its leading actresses including Julianne Moore and Susan Sarandon. Award-winning Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone and 19-year-old Chinese acting star Guan Xiaotong will both be making their Festival debut for L’Oréal Paris this year. In addition, a chance to meet the L’Oréal Paris actresses and ambassadors will be on offer along with the opportunity to win exclusive red carpet tickets.
There is also a L’Oréal Paris 100% Make-up Pop-up boutique which promises a retail, brand and digital experience featuring Nail Genius and Make-up Genius apps alongside real-life make-up artists on hand to give expert advice. Free make-up services and a ‘beauty exclusive of the day’ will be available for those inspired by the red carpet looks happening on the Croisette outside. Shoppers will be able to pick up a limited-edition Color Riche lip colour, including the ‘Palme d’Or’, a collector’s edition created especially for the 20th Canniversary.
As if all that wasn’t enough, a sumptuous party with the theme of a ‘L’Oréal Paris film set’ will be taking place on 24 May as a grand finale of the Festival celebrations. Entertainment will include a live showcase and what is so-far mysteriously billed only as an ‘exclusive performance’.
Finally, on 25 May, the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala will take place at the Hotel du Cap. The fundraiser will be hosted by L’Oréal spokesmodel Eva Longoria and will include a fashion show directed by Carine Roitfeld with L’Oréal models Doutzen Kroes, Lara Stone, Bianca Balti, Maria Borges and Barbara Palvin taking to the catwalk.
