Landing Lips: 12 lip products to try

Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo

Arriving at a new (or even familiar) spot for a much-needed vacation is always fun for all, but most of the time we straggle up to the immigration officer looking bleary and weary, looking like we’ve been bitten by someone from The Walking Dead instead of the wanderlust bug.

Understandably, you may not have the energy to do up the whole face painting routine, but a dab of colour on the lips should do the trick. Here are some products that are perfect for your landing lips – they’ve got good colour pigmentation, can hydrate your dry lips, and even give them a good exfoliation to get rid of those flakey bits caused by hours of inflight air.

Lip scrubs

You don’t even need to get your fingers dirty for this – Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub is an exfoliating and nourishing stick with grains of sugar that melt away. Simply apply the stick generously, rub the grainy texture between your lips to rehydrate and nourish dry skin, and you’ll end up with softer lips as well as a sheer flush.

Prefer to let your fingers do the scrubbing? Try MAC’s Lip Scrubtious, a sugar-based exfoliator in a tub that also contains shea butter and grape seed oil that’ll leave your lips feeling smooth and smoochable. Did we mention that it also leaves a tint? Available in five shades.

Lip care (mask, serum)

Complete your beauty sleep inflight with Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask. It contains a Berry Mix Complex that harnesses the antioxidant power of eight types of berries – raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, blueberry, gojiberry, soapberry, cloudberry, and coffee berry – into a concentrate that’s easily absorbed. Simply apply a thick layer onto the lips, catch some shuteye and wake up to plumper and softer lips. Tip: Apply a thin layer before your lipstick to plump up the lips and make the most of your lip colour.

Sulwhasoo’s Essential Lip Serum Stick has a double barrier system with a moisture-friendly layer that absorbs moisture from the air and channels it to your lips, while the oil-friendly layer locks moisture in. It also contains apricot kernel oil that activates turnover in the stratum corneum, as well as vitamins A, B and C for nourishment. Apply this as an all-day care balm, or a thicker layer as a leave-on mask before you sleep.

Create your very own first class experience on board with La Mer’s The Lip Balm. The product contains a highly potent concentration of the nutrient-rich broth found in its renowned Crème de La Mer as well as a patented Lip Lipid Complex that helps infuse moisture back into the lips and strengthen the minimal moisture barrier. We also like its Marine Anti-Freeze Protein (MAP), an essential protein found in arctic marine life that helps keep them from freezing, which means this will be suitable for extreme cold weather conditions.

Balm-lipstick fusion

This new Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo is said to be a lip balm, liner and lipstick in one. It wraps your lips in a hydrating, lightweight and comforting second-skin feel of colour that’s sheer with one layer, but buildable into a more intense colour.

Laneige’s Two Tone Tint Lip Bar is a sight for sore eyes. The long rectangular tube has a unique V-shaped cross section of two contrasting colours, which is a combination of pigmented lipstick and glossy lip balm that allows you to create that gradient lip effect easily, or get the usual full-colour lip. The product also features the brand’s Moisture Wrap technology that locks in moisture and hydrates the lips.

If you prefer to go with the “I woke up like this” look, then try RMK’s Face Pop Lips. Available in four shades of beiges and nudes, it features a hydrating formula that contains a combination of pearl types so that the colours go with all types of skin undertones.

Discreetly touch up your lips with these special edition Crayola for Clinique Chubby Stick For Lips that can easily be mistaken for the iconic drawing crayon. The lip colour balm is highly moisturising with a pop of colour that’s great for creating a natural look. Did we mention that they also come in the cutest mini sizes?

 Lipsticks

Prefer your lip colour the same way you take your coffee? Then Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Liquid Lip Crème is for you. This luxury ultra-creamy liquid lipstick promises eight-hour wear and intense colour payoff with its rich but lightweight formula.

It may not look different from any other Estée Lauder lipstick, but this Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Oil-Infused Sculpting Lipstick packs a punch with its oils that’ll instantly hydrate your lips. In addition, its silver and gold pearl ingredients make its 12 shades wearable for all skin tones. It doesn’t lose out in terms of pigments though – the colour is also buildable, so you can choose between naturally-bitten lips or a fierce set of puckers red-y to take on the world.

When you’re really strapped for time, Innisfree’s Real Fit Lipstick should do the job for you. It promises rich, pigmented colour in just one swipe, and also contains natural camellia oil to help reduce the appearance of flakes on your lips and form a protective moisture barrier to keep your lips looking moist and beautiful for a longer time.
